Finding Your Beauty Style
Can you explain your beauty style? Are you polished and professional? Chic and effortless? Elegant? Fashion-forward? A glamour queen? Well, we can all agree that our teenage years and early 20s are a time for beauty experimentation. For me, when I want to take a trip down memory lane by looking at my old pictures, it always leaves me asking myself “what was I thinking?”
Everyone has their own beauty style and getting it right is very important. It is important not just for how others perceive you, but for your own self-esteem. Finding your beauty style means figuring out what’s attractive about you and showing more of that side.
When it comes to finding your own beauty style, the first step is recognizing your skin type, your hair type and your body type. Here are some helpful to help you get started;
1. Emphasise & Love Your Best Features: Analyze what features of yours you like best. Does everyone praise your eyes, or your collar bones, or your cheekbones, or…? Focusing on those features you’re proud of can make the job a whole lot easier. Choose hairstyles, lipstick colours, and clothes that will make your favourite feature stand out.
PS: Never neglect your eyes! Everyone you meet is going to look at your eyes. Use a good eye cream to moisturize the area around your eyes. Also, keep your eyebrows neat and well-shaped, you’ll be amazed at the wonders it does.
2. Find A Hairstyle That Suits You: You know that saying that goes ‘Hair is the beauty of a woman’, well that’s true. A hairstyle that suits you can really bring out your beauty. With the number of hairstyles out there, you can have a go at any style you like and even create new ones that don’t exist yet.
A hairstyle should also match with your makeup, you shouldn’t overdo your make-up if your hairstyle is going to cover part of your face. If your hair is going to be up and out of your face then a bit of glitter shade will do great to bring out your features.
3. Experiment With Different Styles: It’s very easy to remain in your comfort zone and stick with what works but truly, the best discoveries happen during experiments. You can start by doing a few things: Try on that red lipstick that has been in your makeup collection, put on a blond wig just because you can, add a pop of colour to your eye makeup look by using a colourful eyeliner pencil in your lower lash line, break out from the “black shoe”, “black handbag“ mode and buy a pair of pink or red pumps and pair it with a regular dress in your wardrobe. Perhaps, you just may stumble upon your signature beauty style!
4. Find a Style Icon: It always helps to have a style icon. Do you know that feeling of “I want to look like this” you sometimes get when you look at someone? Could be a movie star or even someone you know. Once you have a few people in mind, pay attention to how their entire beauty look comes together. What colours and fabrics do they tend to rely on? How is their makeup usually done and their clothing cut? What accessories do they wear most often? When you have a clear picture, you can start incorporating similar pieces into your wardrobe and trying them out for yourself.
5. Take Good Care of Your Skin: Yes, beauty and style are more than just skin, but your skin is one of the first things people notice about you. Maintain a cleansing and moisturizing routine that keeps your skin young and fresh. Glowing skin always adds volume to your beauty and style.
